RICHARD ANTHONY LABAS, age 92, passed away peacefully on June 20, 2024. He was born May 2, 1932 in Cleveland, OH to Vincent and Mary (Jasinski) Labasauskas. He was a 1950 graduate of Cathedral Latin High School. He graduated from John Carroll University and University of Detroit with degrees in Philosophy and Civil Engineering. He also served in the U.S. Army and Reserves.
He worked as Commissioner of Utilities Engineering for the City of Cleveland and was a civil engineering consultant in Egypt, Ukraine, Romania, and Lebanon. He had been a member of the Ohio Society of Professional Engineers.
He enjoyed listening to classical music and spending time with family and was always eager to share his knowledge and enthusiasm of music with others. He was an avid reader and a history buff.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Mary A. (nee Roesch); his children, Karen Breisinger, Barbara Haines (Patrick), Richard V., Mark, and Christopher (Lori); and grandchildren, Dana, Ryan, Eric, Joseph, Jacqueline (Eric), Hannah, Stephanie, Christina, Michael, and Josef.
Visitation at NOSEK-McCREERY FUNERAL HOME, 8150 BRECKSVILLE RD., BRECKSVILLE, OH 44141 on Friday, June 28, 2024 from 4-8 p.m. Funeral Mass at St. Basil the Great Catholic Church, 8700 Brecksville Rd., Brecksville, OH 44141 on Saturday, June 29, 2024 at 10 a.m. (PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH). Interment at Calvary Cemetery in Cleveland.
