Phyllis Hassler Obituary

Phyllis J. Hassler, (nee Boli) age 97 passed away peacefully. Beloved wife of the late Frank E. Hassler and her first husband, George W. Crane; loving mother of Lynn and the late Lois; dearest grandmother of Tegan and Torey; great grandmother of Mickeal; dear sister of the late Eleanor Smith, Elizabeth Wren and Alice Radefeld; mother-in-law of Jeff.

Phyllis supported her girls with her exceptional sewing and alterations skills. She became the Southern Hills YMCA Office Manager in Brecksville for many years and secretary for the Brecksville Chamber of Commerce. Phyllis married Frank and together they started new life chapters.  She started making sewn items for sale at craft fairs and consignment shops that demonstrated her attention to detail and her creative skills.

Phyllis and Frank traveled the country in a Ford van that they converted well before it was a thing to do. They nurtured flower bulbs resulting in stunning displays and were successful gardeners. They both canned and froze food in the manner of those that lived through the Depression.

Phyllis was a long-time member of the Brecksville United Church of Christ. She donated her time to help in the kitchen, making choir robes, stoles and banners for the church.

In later years, Phyllis discovered woodworking, especially wood turning. She produced cherished gifts of beautiful pens, platters and bowls.

Phyllis donated her time and skills to Strongsville and Brecksville throughout the years making preemie hats, blankets, and quilts. She especially enjoyed over 17 years as a Thursday volunteer at Brecksville’s Human Resource Senior luncheons.  Phyllis found a supportive family of volunteers and staff.

She lived a very full life and the family is very thankful for the friendship and support from members of the United Church of Christ, Chippewa Place, Sunrise Assisted Living in Cuyahoga Falls, and Affinity Hospice.

Private family services will be held.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Phyllis' name are suggested to the Brecksville United Church of Christ, 23 Public Square, Brecksville, OH 44141 https://brecksvilleucc.org/giving/ or to Camp Cheerful, 15000 Cheerful Lane, Strongsville, OH 44136 https://achievementcenters.org/donate-2/ or to any charity of your choice.
