Dr. Nancy E. Dowding died May 24th at her home in Brecksville. She passed peacefully holding the hand of her beloved caregiver Amir Williams. She was born in Canton, Ohio August 26, 1924. She received an A.B. in English from Western Reserve and an M.A. in English from Columbia University. She received her M.A. in Guidance and Ph.D in Education from WRU. She was a lifelong educator spending most of her years as a counselor at Tri-C. Untold numbers found their life path through her gift of counseling. She was the president of Women's Equality Action League and appeared before Congress to speak in support of women's rights. Unassuming in appearance, she was a staunch advocate for environmental issues, human dignity, and women's equality. She was active at the Brecksville Community Center in her retirement. She delighted in picnics with her family and flying kites! She spent countless hours posing as a clown for hospital patients. She was the beloved aunt of numerous nieces and nephews. So many lives were enriched by her thoughtfulness, kindness, generosity, and joy of life. She was a lifelong Episcopalian and a celebration of her life will be held Saturday, May 31st at 11:00 am at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, 9549 Highland Dr, Brecksville, OH 44141. Donations may be made in her honor to St. Matthew's. Every phone call ended with"bye bye for now" and so we say with thankful hearts and great love "bye bye for now" Aunt Nancy.
