Michael “Mike” P. Rickey, age 75, passed away on October 31, 2024. Born in Cleveland to the late Florian and Delores Rickey, Mike resided in Mayfield Village with his family. He was the middle child of three; sister Pamela, deceased, (Michael) Kiener and brother, Mark (Mary Lou) Rickey. Mike was a brother-in-law to John (Margaret Rose, deceased, and Ginny, deceased) Buettner, Paul (Nancy) Buettner, Fred Buettner, Terri (Michael, deceased) O’Leary. Mike is survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mike attended Saint Paschal Baylon School, St. Peter Chanel High School, and Walsh University. Mike met his “brown-eyed girl” Mary (nee Buettner) on a blind date and married her in 1973. They shared a loving marriage of 51 years. He was so proud to be the father of Joel (Melissa) Rickey. Mike was very involved with all of Joel’s activities including soccer and Boy Scouts Troop 143 Euclid, OH. Joel was able to earn his Eagle Scout award because of Mike’s support. Mike was so happy when Joel met Melissa and would often say Joel and Melissa were a perfect match. Over the years Mike developed a strong bond with his “daughter” Melissa whom he shared the same alma mater (Walsh University), many stories and laughs, and the same sense of humor.
Mike’s love of golf became a part of who he is. He loved trying different courses, being on many golf leagues, and collecting golf balls from different courses in many states. His passion for golf led him and his neighbor to see how long they could play each month in Ohio’s climate. They reached over 100 months in a row!
Mike enjoyed spending time with friends and family whether that meant playing golf, pinochle, couples bowling nights, game nights with friends including “Catch Phrase” and dominoes, going out to breakfast with his buddies, seeing Broadway musicals and plays, and visiting Ohio president museums.
Mike had a gift of helping organizations. He was involved with Eastlawn Homeowners Association in Euclid, Julie Billiart School of Lyndhurst, New Hampton Homeowners Association, and Stratford Village Association. At one of St. Paschal Baylon’s staff dinners, Mike sat at a table with Father Norm. They chatted through most of the evening and Father Norm asked Mike to help the Blessed Sacrament Priests as their Financial Advisor. Mike was able to help redirect their finances to a better state.
Mike worked for over twenty years at Superior Die Casting where he was Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. He was Chief Financial Officer of Hitchcock Center for Women, then became the Interim Executive Director. Mike was the Controller at Even Cut Abrasive and later worked as a Controller at Tameran. When it was time to retire, Mike didn’t and caught up with his dear friend, Gene, where he helped part-time doing taxes. Their friendship was one that produced many happy days going to work!
