James E. "Jim" Barnes passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 4, 2023.
Jim was a loving husband to LaDonna for over 64 years and caring father to his three sons Mark, Brian (Shari) and Jeff (Christine), doting grandfather to grandchildren Daniel (Michele), Matthew (Sarah), James, Sarah and Jacob, and was expecting a soon-to-be-born great granddaughter.
Jim is preceded in death by his mother Jessie, father Walker, and sister Betty Fike, and is survived by his brother Brent.
Jim worked at the Alcoa Cleveland Works for 48 years, and while working full time, also completed his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Baldwin Wallace University. Through hard work and commitment, Jim rose from humble beginnings in Appalachia, through entry level roles, to finish his career in a position in management at Alcoa- Cleveland, retiring in 2004.
In his free time, Jim engaged in a number of hobbies over the years such as fishing, hunting, golfing and bowling. Having said that, all who knew him, know sharing time with his grandchildren was his greatest joy. In his role as Grampa, he arranged big family vacations, attended student award nights, music concerts, plays and sporting events. When the grandchildren were little, he relished trips to the local park or even the local restaurant play land. All five of the grandchildren know just how much he cared. Any visit with Grampa ended with smiles, kind words, and a little pocket cash for good measure!
For those who wish to share their condolences with his family, visitation will be held at NOSEK-McCREERY FUNERAL HOME, 8150 BRECKSVILLE RD., BRECKSVILLE, OH 44141 on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, from 5-8 p.m. Jim's Funeral Service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, March 9, 2023 at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery Hinckley, Ohio.
