HAZEL GEAR, age 90 (born October 22, 1933), passed away November 30, 2023. Hazel's life was loving her family, caring for children, and being a good friend and neighbor.
Hazel was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 58 years Ernest W. Gear. She was the loving mother of Deborah, Gregory, and Howard and his wife Therese; devoted Grandmother to Stephanie Schmitthenner-Gear (Becky), Joseph Gear, Geoffrey Gear, and Meagan Gear. She was preceded in death by her brothers Paul Bazzle (Retha), Roy Bazzle, and sisters Mona Rutt and Ruby Karlen (Cecil); and her parents, Delphia and Marcus Bazzle.
Hazel loved to care for children. She was a volunteer in the nursery at the Brecksville United Methodist Church where she met lifelong friends who traveled to Europe together. She also cared for and served the children at Chippewa Elementary School in Brecksville and chaperoned the Brecksville High School Marching Band on their trip to England.
Hazel was kind and friendly to everyone she met. She had lifelong friends from the old Mill Road neighborhood in Brecksville. Her friends from the bakery had a standing monthly lunch date at Simon's Deli in Brecksville for over 12 years.
Hazel's other passions were gardening and canning, cooking and baking professionally, and traveling. Her favorite destinations were Germany, England, West Virginia, Nashville, San Diego where her best friend lived, and Ft. Myers where she lived for several years.
When we all go Home, Hazel will be there to meet us with a smile, and a hug, and fresh biscuits in the oven.
