Gilbert Perez Obituary

GILBERT M. PEREZ, age 72, passed away December 21, 2025.

Beloved husband of Dianne (nee Blech) for 42 years. Loving father of Arlene Polo. Dearest grandfather of Sophia and Jonathan. Dear brother of the late Louis. Devoted son of the late Louis and Carmen Delia.

Born in New York City on January 10, 1953, Gil moved to Miami, Florida, as an infant. His upbringing was deeply rooted in his Puerto Rican and Hispanic heritage; with parents from Puerto Rico and grandparents from Northern Spain and Portugal, he developed a lifelong devotion to family, faith, and community. From a young age he found joy in connecting with others- his outgoing personality and ever-present smile were his hallmarks. Gil was a division III chess player during his younger years.

A proud US Air Force veteran, Gil served at Little Rock Air Force Base, first in the reserves, then active duty from 1974-77. His commitment to his nation was as strong as his dedication to his community and family.

As a young adult, Gil moved to Los Angeles where he met his future wife, Dianne, at a small church in North Hollywood, California. They married in 1983 and together, they served their community and lived out their faith by holding church services at nursing homes, home visitation, co-leading a young adult ministry, and participating in the choir. In 1990, they moved back to Cleveland, Dianne’s hometown, continuing their service to the community and witnessing their faith. Gil was active in several Christian men’s groups, served with his wife in several compassion ministries, and was a church greeter. He was also an avid tennis fan, watching every tournament on The Tennis Channel, and attending Master’s tournaments in Mason, Ohio. When he was at home and not watching tennis, he was listening and singing along to Christian music.

Gil had a gift for conversation, one that made everyone feel seen and valued which was particularly appreciated by the homeless men he served volunteering at The City Mission in Cleveland. He received the President’s Volunteer Service Award in 2013 for the many years he served at The City Mission.

Gil and Dianne were avid travelers, exploring the world together and indulging in their shared love for snorkeling. His favorite places to visit was Tobago and Kauai. His ability to speak Spanish allowed them to visit Mexico frequently and explore areas of Spain and the Caribbean. These shared adventures further strengthened their bond and brought them closer to each other and the world around them.
