Emily M. Calamante

EMILY M. CALAMANTE (nee Brezina), passed away Friday, January 28, 2022, age 85. Loving wife of the late Joseph G. Calamante. Cherished mother of Lauri (deceased), Cori, and Christi. Preceded in death by her parents, John and Olga (nee Chulp) Brezina; her brother, John R.; and sister-in-law, Jean C. Brezina. Devoted aunt of Jeanni Zeal (Michael), Jacqi Brezina, Johnny Brezina (deceased), David Brindza, and Deborah Brindza. And gammy to beloved pets Piper and Phoebe.

Emily was an avid gardener since childhood. Her first garden was at Miles School Gardens where she walked or rode her bike to tend to her garden. She was acknowledged by Miles School for her gardening skills. This led to a love of working in her yard with flowers and her garden, where she enjoyed talking to people as they passed by and admired her green thumb.

After Joseph passed away at age 48, Emily devoted her life to raising her children and worked hard to provide for them. After buying a pair of shoes at the Home and Flower Show in the Cleveland Convention Center due to sore feet, it spawned into a full blown career selling some of the most comfortable shoes. Oftentimes hosting three or more shoe parties a week in homes and working the Cuyahoga County Fair, Oktoberfest, North American Sail and Power Boat Show. Through the shoe business, she was befriended by a representative of the Clerk of Courts which led to her second career of almost 30 years as a Deputy of the Cuyahoga County Clerk of Courts at the Title Bureau. Emily retired at the age of 73.

Family and Friends will be received at NOSEK-McCREERY FUNERAL HOME, 8150 BRECKSVILLE RD., BRECKSVILLE, OH 44141 on Sunday, February 20, 2022 from 2:00-3:30 p.m. followed by a service in celebration of Emily's life at 3:30 p.m. (Masks will be required for all services).
