Elaine Louise Christensen (nee Galik), age 87, of Medina, peacefully passed away on June 4, 2026. Daughter of the late John E. Galik and Stephanie M. (Alaksa) Galik. Beloved mother of Scott (Leichele) Christensen and Eriq (Bonnie) Christensen. Ex-wife of the late Robert Christensen. Sister of the late Donald J. Galik and John K. Galik. Sister-in-law of Shirley Galik, the late Donna Galik, and Donald Christensen (wife Em surviving). Cherished cousin, aunt, great-aunt and great-great-aunt of many.
Born on June 14, 1938 in Lakewood Ohio, Elaine graduated from Independence High School in 1956 and attended Ohio University for one year before embarking on a career in the travel industry. Although her career took her to many South American destinations, her favorite was the Galápagos Islands. A highlight of Elaine's international travel in retirement was her trip to Krupina, Slovakia, her ancestral homeland, and the surrounding cities of Prague and Budapest.
After several moves, Elaine and her husband settled in Los Angeles to raise their sons.
In 2006, Elaine relocated to McCormick, South Carolina where she spent many years near her brother, Don, and his wife Donna. At least once a year, Elaine planned driving trips to visit her brother, John and his family, close cousins , nieces, and nephews in addition to former high school classmates, and friends. She eventually made the decision to move back north in 2024 to the Cleveland area and joined the Western Reserve Masonic Independent Living Community in Medina.
A memorial service will be held at the Independence United Methodist Church, 6615 Brecksville Rd, Independence, Ohio 44131 on Saturday, September 26, 2026 at 3:00 p.m.
Donations may be made in Elaine's name to Reserve Care Hospice (Formerly Hospice of the Western Reserve).
