Edward G. Bilek of Brecksville, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2023. Edd was 82 years old. Born in Brecksville, Ohio the son of Albert and Sylvia Bilek and the brother of Ronald and Wayne (RuthAnn). He was a 1959 graduate of Brecksville High School. He married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life Therese "Terrie" (Halter) on June 27, 1964.
Edd was a Veteran of the Viet Nam War, serving in the army between 1963 and 1966. He was awarded the Bronze Star and the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster for meritorious achievement in ground operations against hostile forces and for bravely risking his own life under fire to save the life of a fellow wounded soldier.
After the war, Edd went to work at Dow Chemical in Inventory Control and Scheduling while simultaneously attending college. Edd graduated from Cleveland State University with a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1972. He enjoyed a long career at American National Can, as the Production Control Manager.
Edd served on the Brecksville-Broadview Heights Board of Education from 1984 - 1987. As a former football player for the high school and the father of athletes, Edd spearheaded the building of the athletic track and field facility.
Edd enjoyed rock music and dancing. He loved dancing with his wife Terrie and was the hit of every wedding with his dance moves.
After the death of his beloved Terrie, Edd found fulfillment as a member of St. Basil's Honduran Mission Team. Edd accompanied the team on 11 trips to San Francisco de la Paz, working on water filtration systems and building and restoring schools, churches, and the orphanage.
Edd was preceded in death by his wife, Terrie (Halter). He is survived by his five children, Debra (John Dunning), Edward (Debbie), Marc (Jen), Rosann Gage (Chris Miller), Elizabeth (Ryan Crum); his 18 grandchildren: Brittany (David Green), Phillip Dunning (Brittany), Zachary Bilek, Brandon Bilek (Elisabeth), Mara (Jake Van Meter), Jessica (Brett Cooke), Joseph Gage, Matthew Dunning, Jack Bilek, Alexander Vigil, Adeline Vigil, Hallie Bilek, Jack Miller, Sophia Gage, Marina Vigil, Katelyn Miller, Garrett Crum, and Vivian Crum; and his 6 great-grandchildren: Harrison Green, Jackson Green, Emilia Bilek, Savannah Green, and the expectant twins Cade and Camryn Cooke.
The family would like to thank all the personnel and caregivers at Jennings of Brecksville, Northeast Ohio Hospice, and Home Instead who provided Edd care and comfort.
Family will receive friends at Nosek-McCreery Funeral Home, 8150 Brecksville Rd. Brecksville, Ohio 44141 on Friday, December 15, 2023 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Edd's Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Basil the Great Catholic Church, 8700 Brecksville Rd., Brecksville, OH 44141 on Saturday, December 16, 2023 at 10 a.m. (PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH). Burial to follow at All Saints Cemetery.
