Dennis John Marcuz, age 80 of Seven Hills, passed away Monday, March 21, 2022. Beloved husband of the late Sherry Lou (nee Steiger); Cherished father of Denise Gawlik (Gregory) and Steven Marcuz (Ashley); Proud grandfather of Benjamin and Gabriella Gawlik and Augustine, Geneva, Jacob, Evangeline, Gabriel, Nicholas, Solomon, Constance, and Canon Marcuz; Devoted brother of Marilyn Marrapese (Richard), Richard Marcuz, and Eileen Mandilakis (Robert). Loving nephew, cousin, uncle and friend to many. Preceded in death by his parents Tranquillo and Narcissa (nee Vettor) Marcuz and grandson Joseph Marcuz.
Dennis was the first born son of Italian immigrants. His early childhood was spent roaming the streets of Clark Avenue (Cleveland's other Little Italy) before the family moved to Parma. He graduated from Parma Senior High in 1959. Dennis was the first in his family to graduate college and obtained his teaching degree from Bowling Green State University in 1963. He taught art for several years spending most of that time in the Cleveland Public Schools. However, it was while student teaching in Cuyahoga Heights, that he met the love of his life Sherry and they were married in 1968. Dennis and Sherry were happily married for 42 years before her untimely passing in 2010.
After being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in the early 1980s and upon advice from doctors, Dennis retired. During retirement, Dennis devoted his time to his family, his garden and to creating artwork. His iris and rose gardens were the envy of all who saw them and his beloved paintings adorn the walls of family and friends across the country. Dennis was also an avid traveler of the United States and Canada visiting dozens of national parks from the Grand Canyon to the Canadian Rockies. We have the slides to prove it. Dennis was most proud of his 12 grandchildren and he loved to hear about their endeavors big and small. He especially loved when all of his grandchildren were together playing, laughing and just being a happy family.
Friends will be received at NOSEK-McCREERY FUNERAL HOME, 8150 Brecksville Rd., Brecksville, Ohio 44141 on Thursday, March 24, 2022 from 1-4 & 5-8 pm. Dennis' funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, March 25, 2022 at 10 am. Interment at Crown Hill Memorial Park.
