Arpad C. Orosz, age 81 of Brecksville passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2025. Beloved husband of Elizabeth (nee Uszkai) for 52 years; loving father of Csaba Orosz (Jordana), Adam Orosz, Kristina Orosz (Adam); dearest pop pop of Cecilia and Fiona; preceded in death by his sister Marta and his parents Arpad and Erzsebet Orosz.
He was a life long learner: graduated High School in Nagykaroly Romania at the age of 16, had a Bachelor's degree of Divinity from Kolozsvar, Romania, Master of Theology degree from Princeton Theological Seminary, Bachelor of Arts in Foreign languages (German/French) and an MBA in management from Youngstown State University. He was also a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator.
He worked in the Bishop's Office of the Reformed Church Nagyvarad in Romania as a translator, counselor, assistant minister, and substitute organist.
After defecting from communist Romania in 1977, he spent 6 months in Holland and learned to speak fluent Dutch. When he arrived in the USA (1978) he worked mostly as a Presbyterian minister in McKeesport, PA, Niles, OH, North Kingsville, OH, and Cleveland, OH. He was also a substitute German minister for the St. Thomas Lutheran Church and retired from the Bosworth Road Presbyterian Church.
Deep faith was central to his entire life, being the son of a minister and later becoming one himself.
Even after his retirement, he felt the call to continue his ministry - he served as long-term interim pastor at the Hungarian Reformed Church in Akron, Ohio.
Between 1992 and 1997 he worked as a nursing home administrator and business owner.
He was part time faculty at different colleges, teaching foreign languages.
He had many religious writings and unpublished written stories - fiction and non-fiction.
His main hobby was learning languages and he traveled extensively in Europe, putting his language skills to good use. He spoke fluent Hungarian, Romanian, English, German, Dutch and French, also at moderate level Italian, Spanish and Greek, basic level Russian. He was well versed in other languages that can be read today: Latin, Biblical Greek, and Sumerian.
He enjoyed listening to classical music, reading, photography, traveling, and skiing.
Private family service to be held. Interment will be at Brecksville Cemetery
