Alexander "Alex" McMaster, age 94, passed away Thursday, September 17, 2026. Beloved husband of Gerry McMaster (deceased) for 68 years. Loving father of Terry Brooks (Gary) and Kirsten Sasak (Ken). Devoted grandfather of Christopher Sasak (deceased), Kevin Sasak (Melissa), and Aaron Brooks (Michael). Cherished great grandfather of Gemma and Piper Sasak.
Alex was a Korean War veteran in the US Army Field Artillery. After serving, and while raising a family, he attended technical school and American University, eventually earning a PhD in mechanics and material science from Rutgers University. He enjoyed a productive career as a research scientist at Standard Oil Company and Ferro Corp.
Alex dedicated his time to family, church and community. He sang in the church choir, headed the church men's club and youth group, taught Sunday school, coached girls softball and even acted in neighborhood theater plays. He was always active: playing golf, acting as pit crew at road races, building wood furniture and building model airplanes and boats. He was generous, friendly and kind to everyone he met and a good friend to many. As a first-generation son of Irish immigrants, Alex loved to tell bawdy Irish jokes with a heavy brogue. He lived his last few years at Jennings of Brecksville, where he continued building models and loving people to the end.
Family and Friends will be received at NOSEK-McCREERY FUNERAL HOME, 8150 BRECKSVILLE RD., BRECKSVILLE, OH 44141 on Thursday, September 24, 2026 from 12-1:30 p.m. followed by Alex's Celebration of Life service at 1:30 p.m. (PLEASE NOTE CHANGE OF SERVICE TIME)
