Alan F. Dutka, age 83 of Brecksville, OH passed away Sunday, January 11, 2026. Beloved husband of Priscilla (nee Baits) for 48 1/2 years; loving father of David Dutka, Susan Benz (Tyler), and Diane Ghorbanzadeh (Michael); dearest grandfather of Daisy Benz and Daniel and Samuel Ghorbanzadeh; dear brother of the late James Dutka; dear uncle.
Alan taught statistics at both Cleveland State University and Kent State University. He and Priscilla met at Cleveland State when she took the statistics class that he was teaching. Alan, a native Clevelander, retired from his business career and authored eight Cleveland history books: Cleveland's Millionaires' Row; Slovenians in Cleveland: A History; Historic Movie Theaters of Downtown Cleveland; Misfortune on Cleveland's Millionaires' Row; AsiaTown Cleveland: From Tong Wars to Dim Sum; Cleveland Calamities: A History of Storm, Fire and Pestilence; East Fourth Street: The Rise, Decline, and Rebirth of an Urban Cleveland Street; and Cleveland's Short Vincent: The Theatrical Grill and Its Notorious Neighbors. During his business career, Alan authored four marketing research books, including Customer Satisfaction Research, a primary selection of the Newbridge Executive Book Club that has been translated into Spanish and Japanese. He was a popular speaker at historical societies, libraries, community centers, and the Music Box Supper Club. He appeared on the Feagler & Friends, Applause and Seven Minutes with Russ Mitchell television programs, and on radio programs such as Dee Perry's Around Noon and with Jaqueline Gerber's morning program. Alan also had been interviewed by PBS, the Lorain Morning Journal and France 24 Television.
Family and friends will be received at Nosek-McCreery Funeral Home, 8150 Brecksville Rd., Brecksville, OH 44141 on SUNDAY, January 18, 2026 from 2-6 pm. Alan's funeral service will be held at Lake View Cemetery Wade Chapel, 12316 Euclid Ave., Cleveland, OH 44106 on TUESDAY, January 20, 2026 at 11:00 am (Please meet at the Euclid gate entrance).
